Produce
Now in our fifth season, we grow approximately 10 acres of naturally grown, certified organic produce. We have one half acre of greenhouses used in the production of bedding plants, organic tomatoes and field starts for the farm. We are committed to going beyond just selling great greens… we are “going green” in significant ways! This season, our farm will be focusing on energy efficiency in all areas of the operation. We will be using our greenhouses to propegate organic tomatoes during the winter months here in the Northeast. This new greenhouse area will greatly enhance the nursery operation of 3B Ranch, providing a warm place to grow our plants on those all too frequent cool Connecticut spring days!
Herbs and More
In 2009, we started growing a variety of annual and perennial herbs. Please refer to our growing list for the current offerings. Please note that items are often added as the season progresses and availability naturally depends on good seed germination and growing conditions.
Heirloom vegetables
This year we are pleased to offer variety of heirloom vegetables. During the summer months, look for our organic vegetables at area Farmers’ Markets throughout Connecticut. Heirlooms are old-timers from many countries, whose seeds have been preserved for generations. They are well-respected for their marvelous deep flavor. Started early from seed, they are transplanted twice and, as large plants, go in the ground in early June. Our garlic is ready in early July and our sweet onions and potatoes shortly thereafter.
